What I want

I don’t want diamonds

or thousands of roses

weathering on a window seal.

No sugary sirens

with silver-bell voices

are needed to prove how you feel.

I don’t want the stars

or the vast, unreachable sky

to be laid beneath my dainty feet.

No healing of scars

that are unseen by the eye

are required to be perceived as sweet.

All I ever ask of you

is to stay in my corner

when life becomes unbearably colder.
